The photographic artist Taneli Eskola's (b. 1958) work weaves a tapestry of space and time – images of snowy landscapes, street life, gardens and urban havens. Eskola has always observed his immediate living environments, including the Hämeenlinna of the 1980s and the old Malmi district in Helsinki. During his travels, he has captured scenes in the former Soviet Union, Estonia, Poland and Italy.

Eskola has published many photography books, and provided illustrations and text for dozens of books on photographic art, cultural landscapes and garden art. He received a doctorate in arts in 1997.

Taking photographs is the foundation for Eskola's work. Wonderful World is an extensive solo exhibition of Eskola's work from the 1970s to the present day, which demonstrates how his art transcends the boundaries of photographic genres.

Texts by various experts guide viewers into the pictorial landscapes of the Kaunis Maa exhibition. Julia Donner (PhD, researcher), Kati Lintonen (PhD, researcher),Sanna Lipponen (independent writer and curator) and Asko Mäkelä (art historian) set viewers on the paths that lead to Eskola's world.

"Eskola's landscape photographs bring to mind childhood summers: the smell of the sea and the brightness of the sky. They also recall the most beautiful of winter days, when the snow reflects the light, and the frosty air nips your cheek." – Sanna Lipponen
