Museumbox
Projects
The Finnish Museum of Photography, the Hotel and Restaurant Museum and the Theatre Museum are conceptualizing and realizing the Museumbox project in 2022. The aim of the project is to expand the accessibility of wide-ranging and holistic museum experiences in the whole country.
Looking to Understand Inclusion

‘Looking to Understand Inclusion’ is a 2-year project funded through the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. It aims to support educators from local arts and education communities to use the Visual Thinking Strategies method to promote social inclusion with children.

Vuosaari 21
Projects
The Finnish Museum of Photography worked in collaboration with KOM-theatre and Klockriketeatern within a transdisciplinary project Vuosaari 21. During 2019-2021 the project brought along multitude of participatory activity and events, such as happenings, and workshops as well as public art works. Activities were planned together with the production group and the locals of Vuosaari.
Transeurope
Projects
Transeurope is a new European forum for photography and the visual arts, aiming at encouraging exchange between professionals, experts and institutions, and the international mobility and visibility of artists. The initiative is organized by The Fundación Contemporánea (Spain), The Finnish Museum of Photography (Finland) and Euromare (Greece). The project is made possible with support from the Creative Europe programme.
Fast Forward 2: Women in Photography
Projects
Fast Forward 2: Women in Photography is the international research project initiated by Professor Anna Fox at the University for the Creative Arts (UK) and supported by The Leverhulme Trust. The project has seven partners, including The Finnish Museum of Photography.
PARALLEL – European Photo Based Platform

PARALLEL is a platform that brings together creative European organisations committed to promoting cross-cultural exchanges and mentorships in order to set new standards in contemporary photography.
Guess image
Guess image aims to introduce the museum’s open, free-to-use, digital photographic materials in the form of a game.
SNAP – Photography Festival for Children and Young People
Projects
What is important to me and which things I want to affect? A new collaborative project between The Finnish Museum of Photography and regional photographic centers will bring the photographed vision of children and young people into public space all over Finland. The project is funded by The Finnish Cultural Foundation.
Permission to Wonder – Visual Thinking Strategies
Projects
The Finnish Museum of Photography, together with five other European cultural organizations, is piloting the use of the Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) teaching method to enhance learning with visual arts in schools and cultural institutions in 2017–2020.
Collecting Social Photo
Projects
A joint Nordic project explores the visual cultures of social media and the best ways to preserve them in museum collections or image archives. The other participating institutions are the Aalborg City Archives, the Nordic Museum and Stockholm County Museum.
Darkroom Mansion

Darkroom Mansion, a mobile game produced by the Finnish Museum of Photography introduces how the darkroom works. As the game progresses, players will become familiar with print making and equipments used in a darkroom, as well as Finnish photographers and their works. Free to play on iOS and Android!
Vuosaari – In other words

A three-year project will bring a multitude of events and exhibitions as well as photography, audio and video workshops for the youth in Vuosaari, an Eastern Helsinki suburb.
Images Tell Stories – Vernacular photography
Projects
The photo book Images Tell Stories is a result of co-operation of two organizations, The Finnish Museum of Photography and NGO Art Travel (Odesa, Ukraine) within the international project Tandem Ukraine. It aims to draw attention to family albums and vernacular photography. The book presents photographs from the collection of The Finnish Museum of Photography, as well as photos from the albums of Ukrainian families.
Interpretations and information – learning paths with open materials

The aim of the project is to introduce the museum's open, free-to-use, digital photographic materials to teachers, and to develop creative ways to use the images in "phenomenon-based teaching". The project represents a new form of cooperation between museums and teachers.
Daguerreobase
Projects
The Daguerreobase database brings together cultural heritage from the early history of photography, including more than 25,000 images and objects from all over Europe.
